With the help and encouragement from some amazing friends, mentors, and others in the nonprofit industry, I decided to formalize B Greater Consulting as a "side-gig" in November 2017. Since then, I've been partnering to help nonprofits in Iowa - all while still raising a family and dedicating my time as a community volunteer.
Why partner with me? I can make that answer simple. It's a partnership and not a transaction. I'm not taking on clients that I can't manage or that I don't feel that I can truly help meet their needs.
I have the distinct ability to engage key constituents, develop and articulate the value proposition for all parties, recognize and effectively utilize key competencies of team members, and deliver on the promise. I have a rare talent to effectively listen and process information, which enables me to help formulate ideas and plans of action for those I work with, and I embrace challenging situations head on.
Brianne Fitzgerald, MA, CNP, CFRE
Before my time working for nonprofits and government, I worked in advertising, sales, banking and retail for about 8 years. I managed large and small sales teams, contracts, and customized advertising packages for employers and automotive dealers. I enjoyed my time as a retail manager training new management members for stores in the region and opening new stores.
Over the last 10+ years I've been fortunate to be working in the nonprofit and government industries. I've taken a failing volunteer center and brought it back to life. I've delivered campaign presentations to organizations and employers of all sizes during my time working for United Way. I spent time learning about grants - from the research and writing phase to stewarding the funds given, even working with national service to help start up a summer youth program.
I appreciate what it is like to work for both large and small nonprofit organizations. I've served as an Executive Director of a small nonprofit where I'm proud of the record-breaking fundraising campaigns my team achieved, where we integrated a new community-focused engagement model for the community, laid the ground work to start a summer food program, and championed bringing in the Blue Zones Project to support the community.
It's been amazing to work in marketing and public relations where I've shared the stories of those doing great work in our community and those who need support, built relationships with the media, and developed communications plans to engage and inspire target audiences. I've also worked to identify opportunities for engagement of volunteers into organizations to build capacity, like starting a group for young professionals or marketing committees.
Currently I work on the programmatic side of a nonprofit as the Program Director for the Alzheimer's Association, Iowa Chapter. I am charged with the growth of programming across the state through the volunteer service delivery of our programs. I sit as a member of our national program volunteer advisory council, supporting our home office team with development, planning, and guiding the work we do across the country with and for our volunteer base.
Community Leadership, Awards, & Education
Most important to me, I've been a community volunteer every step of the way. I believe in giving back not only in what you do in your day job, but in every aspect of your life. My husband and I are donors, volunteers, and model the way for our children every day.
I have been blessed to be recognized as a Forty Under 40 from the Business Record in 2016, receive the YPC Amy Jennings Young Professionals Impact Award in 2015, and receive an honorable mention from Iowa Campus Compact in 2017 for my work to bring a food rescue program to Simpson College. In 2018, I was awarded the Youth Leadership Initiative's Impact Award for my service with the organization. Today I serve as the President for the Simpson College Alumni Board of Directors, and the Board Chair-Elect for the Community Leadership Program with the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute.
I am a graduate of the Mahaska Leadership Institute, the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute's Community Leadership Program and Community Connect Program. I have my Bachelor's of Arts in Marketing and Corporate Communications from Simpson College, and my Master's Degree in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Development from the University of Northern Iowa. I am a Certified Nonprofit Professional, and have a certificate of Business Management from Drake University, as well as my Certificate in Volunteer Management from Indian Hills Community College. I became a CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) in 2019.
